Vena Grebenshikov
American artist of Russian origin
Vena Grebenshikov is inspired by the music and culture of New Orleans to depict his version of Americana through the lens of his Russian immigrant experience.
He levers his training in the Russian Expressionist school to create emotionally evocative, structurally and visually harmonious images. Vena focuses much of his work on American Jazz. He is inspired to play with color, form, and texture to capture the spirit of the freedom that jazz represents to him. He has repeatedly returned to this subject since his arrival in New Orleans over 30 years ago.
Vena uses an unusual painting technique, a mixture of methods from different artistic media. This technique allows him to create a sense of vitality and depth. His staccato strokes and layered paints are intended to reflect the energy, risk, and surprise that define each jazz composition as he pulls the image out of the media. His first works began with “Colors of Jazz” produced in the late XX century. Enthusiasts should look for his newest series in the gallery. Within the last 30 years, Vena has successfully built a global following.
